Truckie writes: This is my first time restoring a car.
I want a Mopar that I can say I built, so I am doing everything myself, except for engine machine work.
Here's the Plymouth on its
way from Iowa to my home
in Missouri in August 2003.
(My wife thought I was nuts.)
Status by February 2004...
In April 2004 etching the car is scheduled, and hopefully paint applied by the end of May.
When finished the Plymouth will have an Old Reliable 440 and a 4 speed.
Update: March 28, 2004
Pretty much everything but the roof is down to bare metal and I have cut out and replaced 99% of the rust so far.
It won't take long to get it ready to paint. Trunk floor is solid, floor pan is pretty
good, there are a few small spots I have cut out and am in the process of welding in new metal. The car is
pretty much complete, only missing a few trim pieces.
Info on car:
* 1964 Sport Fury 383 4 speed car, 383 is gone
* 1968 Road Runner 8 3/4 Rearend (new seals, bearings,cleaned and painted with POR)
* 742 center with 3.23 SureGrip
* Right rear quarter has been replaced with a used one from donor car
* Left lower rear quarter replaced with new patch panel.
* I believe I have all interior pieces, but everything needs reocovered.
* Fiberglass Ramcharger style hood scoop
* Also have original 8 3/4 for car
* I have a '74? 440 block (needs bored), steel crank, 452 head castings
* All glass is good except windshield
* I have roughed in a lot of the body work, I am by no means a pro, but it won't take a lot of effort to get
it ready for paint. Thanks, Truckie!
If you are going to do a first restoration, a 4 speed '64 Plymouth is a good Mopar to start with!
We look forward to a picture of you and your wife crusin' in the Plymouth!
