1964 Chrysler Imperial Crown

Works in Progress

Don writes: This beast has been sitting in a widow lady’s back yard in Roanoke, TX (where I work) for 10 years. In February 2006 I offered to help clean up her property by towing it away to my home in Justin, TX (4 miles from Texas Motor Speedway).

As of now, I know the engine runs (we got her to run last month) but she needs a carb overhaul.

I’m currently reworking the whole brake system. Wheel covers were stowed in the trunk and look pretty decent. Paint is in surprisingly good shape but I’ll get her repainted in the next year or two. Amazing how a good scrubbing and a coat of wax made her look!

My jet mechanic neighbor has a friend who does interior restorations but that’s another project that is much further down the road.

So, items to do right away include rebuilding the Carter carburator, brake overhaul and flushing the gas tank and purging the fuel lines.

I had a bit of a problem with the door latches. The driver’s door was the only one that worked. Last month we managed to get the other three doors open and working. Those pesky star-wheel latches were frozen solid.

Another challenge is electrical; getting the power windows to work properly. Some work, some do not, some will go down, but not up.

Thanks, Don!

Nice save from a backyard hibernation!

You'll enjoy the Imperial! Great cars!   smile!
