1962 Plymouth Savoy

Works in Progress

Brian writes:
1962 Plymouth Savoy, front My Great Uncle purchased this 1962 Plymouth Savoy two-door in 1962 from
the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. According to him, the state purchased too
many vehicles and had to purge the extras. This car was supposedly a
Captain's vehicle for the interstate.

The two-door Savoy came from the factory with the following:
seat belts, heavy-duty suspension, dual exhaust, certified speedometer, 4-bbl carburetor (318), and power steering.

In 1989, my uncle wrecked the car into a tree when his foot got
caught between the brake and the gas peddle (he was 81 at the time).
The front right fender, hood and grill area were dented and bent.
The right rear quarter was also dented. The car sat inside until parts
could be accumulated for a full repair.

1962 Plymouth Savoy, driver side The car is practically rust free with the only rust being a little surface
rust on the bottom of one floor pan. The car has been recently repaired and
painted with my brother Darin doing most of the body work while Dean Crawford
finished the car in paint.
The original 318 (with the original carburetor) and the
transmission were rebuilt and are back in the car.

1962 Plymouth Savoy, rear interior My uncle had the seats recovered, but,
the original coverings were underneath
and ingreat shape.

The original headliner is still intact with
no cuts or rips.

All interior pieces are the originals,
except the carpet, and in good shape.
Not bad for a 42 year old car that is
on it's second/third owner.

The plan is to have the Savoy back on the road for the first time in 15 years this summer ('04).

Will continue to update as progress is made.

Quite the family sedan, Brian!

Summer crusin' in a '62 Savoy sounds like a plan.

A plan that worked!  smile!
